28 July 2020 Press Release

Chelmer Valley Park and Ride to reopen

Essex County Council’s (ECC) Chelmer Valley Park & Ride site in Chelmsford will reopen from Monday 3 August.  ECC’s other two Park & Ride (P&R) sites, at Sandon and Colchester, have already successfully reopened from Monday 6 July.

All three P&R sites will initially run to a reduced timetable and provide services between 7am-7pm Monday to Saturday, but passengers are advised to check the website or Social Media before traveling for any updates or changes, which could occur due to essential operation reasons.

All ECC services will be operating in line with current government Social Distancing requirements, and therefore, there may be a slightly longer wait to board a vehicle due to reduce capacity onboard passengers are advised to be patient and follow advice from service staff however a new queuing system will be introduced to make the process as efficient and safe as possible.

In further good news, ‘Child Age’ fares have been increased from a maximum 16yrs of age up to 18yrs of age; and ‘Group Tickets’ for up to 2 adults and 3 children for £5, which could be especially useful during the summer holidays, are still available.

Finally, the P&R sites are now offering* a new service, ‘Park and Pedal’. This service will see secure bike lockers available on site for those who wish to drive to the P&R sites and then cycle to their final destination. There will be a two month introductory offer of free parking until the end of August (for Park & Pedal customers only); the normal cost of ‘Park & Pedal’ is £3 per day for parking, or there is a £20 per month option which then also includes the use of a secure locker on site.
