Cycle for fun, exercise and commuting

Cycling Strategy

The Essex Cycling Strategy (published in 2016) aims to encourage Essex residents, workers and visitors to enjoy the health benefits of cycling, which also offers an affordable travel choice for journeys around our towns. As well as encouraging more leisure and family bike rides to enjoy the Essex countryside.

The strategy acts as the overarching policy framework to Enable, Provide and Promote cycling in Essex.

We are currently developing a new Essex Cycling Strategy, and have recently published a draft strategy document. A public consultation on the draft strategy ran from Thursday 23 May to Sunday 14 July 2024. More information about the new draft strategy is available via our engagement webpage
