As part of the planning permissions for the extension of Broomfield Hospital Mid Essex Hospitals Trust were obliged to make improvements to the roundabout at the junction of B1008 Main Road and Hospital Approach to improve capacity. All approaches will be widened to two lanes with a revised and relocated central island.
This scheme focuses on improvements to the section of cycleway along Bunny Walks between Victoria Road and Hillview Road, a route approximately 570m in length. The improvements to this route will specifically focus on ride quality and safety.
The existing A130 between the Boreham Interchange and the A131 was originally built in the 1980s. It needs to be fit for purpose, particularly as Chelmsford continues to grow, catering for increased walking, cycling and public transport.
We are currently considering measures to improve the crossing point at Paper Mill Bridge, North Hill, Little Baddow as the bridge has limited structural capacity and is in an deteriorating condition.
Essential maintenance is planned in April 2023 to re-waterproof Victoria Road Bridge, which carries the A1099 over the River Chelmer. To fully utilise traffic restrictions that will be in place, these works have been co-ordinated with other important improvement projects. This will enable us to work efficiency while limiting future inconvenience to residents, businesses and commuters caused by traffic restrictions in the future.
