As part of the planning permissions for the extension of Broomfield Hospital Mid Essex Hospitals Trust were obliged to make improvements to the roundabout at the junction of B1008 Main Road and Hospital Approach to improve capacity. All approaches will be widened to two lanes with a revised and relocated central island.
This scheme focuses on improvements to the section of cycleway along Bunny Walks between Victoria Road and Hillview Road, a route approximately 570m in length. The improvements to this route will specifically focus on ride quality and safety.
In 2022 planning permission was granted by Chelmsford City Council (ref: 22/00473/REM) for a new railway station to be built on the Great Eastern Main Line.
It is anticipated that the new station will improve transport links in the area, reducing car journeys into the city and improving facilities for rail users.
Repairs and strengthening works to Duffill Bridge have been planned to take place during March 2024. During this time, staff will be mostly working underneath the structure.
Plans are in place to upgrade the safety barriers on the central reserve of the A1114 Essex Yeomanry Way in Chelmsford.

We are currently considering measures to improve the crossing point at Paper Mill Bridge, North Hill, Little Baddow as the bridge has limited structural capacity and is in an deteriorating condition.

A number of improvements were made to Victoria Road during 2023, including waterproofing Victoria Road Bridge, resurfacing the road between the junction of Springfield Road and New Street, and upgrading pedestrian/cycling crossing facilities.
A new Toucan Crossing and cycle route will be installed on White Hart Lane in Springfield from January 2025.
In August 2024, essential maintenance will occur to preserve the Waterhouse Lane Bridge on Waterhouse Lane in Chelmsford. Additionally, resurfacing work will take place on A1016 Rainsford Lane and Waterhouse Lane to enhance its condition.

As part of the approved Windermere development on Hospital Approach, Broomfield (Planning Application Ref: 23/00520/FUL), the developer will carry out highway improvement and road safety works.
