About the works

Preparations are being made to renew the traffic signals located on Howard Way, south of Mowbray Road, Harlow.

Works are due to start on Monday 9 August 2021 and expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

We will be replacing the pedestrian crossing signals before they become unreliable and fail to work properly and will be installing new extra low voltage equipment.

Activities will include removing and reconstructing a new traffic island as well as replacing above-ground equipment. The pedestrian facilities will also be upgraded to a puffin crossing with nearside pedestrian signals.

How it will affect you

During the first week an overnight road closure will be required on Howard Way to allow for work to take place across the carriageway. The road will be closed between the hours of 7pm to 5am.

A diversion will be in place via First Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Velizy Avenue, Fourth Avenue,  Edinburgh Way, Howard Way and vice versa. Please refer to the diversion drawing in the document section for further details.

From the week commencing Monday 16 August 2021 the works will be carried out during the day between the hours of 9.30am to 3.30pm with lane restrictions in place managed by temporary traffic signals to provide a safe working area while operatives are on site.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and for safety, we propose to install a temporary controlled pedestrian crossings across Howard Way whilst the works are undertaken.
