Boxted Bridge – Public consultation open

A public consultation has been launched to allow pedestrians and cyclists to use Boxted Bridge.

The load test carried out on the bridge in September 2025 was carried out to see if the bridge can carry pedestrians and cyclists.  Following analysis of the load test results it was found that it could be re-opened for use by pedestrians and cyclists.

Given this, we have decided to open a central section of the bridge temporarily to pedestrians and cyclists by the end of the month, noting that some traffic management will therefore still be in place to prevent vehicles crossing the bridge.

Please be aware that the public consultation for the proposed Traffic Regulation Order  Ref: TRAF8771 – Proposed Prohibition of Motorised Vehicles (and Restriction of Other Traffic) on Wick Road (No. 059 Boxted Bridge) runs from 22 January 2026 and will be closing on 12 February 2026.
