Persimmons Homes Development – Long Green/Braintree Road, Cressing

Works location and photo

Area of phase one works

About the scheme

MDS Civil Engineering Ltd, appointed by Persimmon Homes, will be carrying out carriageway improvement works as part of planning application 18/00549/OUT, approved by Braintree District Council.

Works will take place along the B1018 Braintree Road, between the southern arm of the Millennium Way Roundabout and the newly constructed Persimmon roundabout.

This provides the primary access route to 250 new homes, forming a connection between Braintree Road (B1018) and Long Green via newly constructed roundabout junctions.

The project will be delivered in phases.

  • Phase One will focus on reconstructing the road alignment to match the newly installed kerb lines, installing drainage, completing outstanding footway works, and providing road signs and road markings.
  • Phase Two will take place on the southern side of the new roundabout and will include carriageway surfacing, reconstruction works, lining, and signage installation.

To minimise disruption, works are planned to coincide with school holidays when traffic levels are typically lower. A full road closure will be required to ensure the safety of the public and workforce and to allow the works to be completed efficiently.

How it will affect you

A full road closure will be in place during the works as outlined below. Diversions will be clearly signposted, and pedestrian access will remain unaffected.

Proposed work phases

Proposed work phases Proposed work description and traffic management (note that details may be subject to change)

Phase one - 27 March (9pm) to mid‑April 2026

Braintree Road will be fully closed in both directions 24 hours a day between Millennium Way Roundabout and the new developer’s roundabout to the south for the full duration of the works.

Full pedestrian access will be maintained throughout this period.

The nature of these works require a full closure of the road due to excavations and surfacing that will be carried out across the full width of the carriageway.

Phase two - July/August 2026 (dates to be confirmed) Information to be provided closer to the construction start date.

Proposed diversion route - phase one

During the planned road closure, Braintree Road will be fully closed from a point approximately 60m south west of the junction with Cressing Road Roundabout for a distance of approximately 420m in a south westerly then south easterly direction.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while highway improvement works are undertaken by Persimmon Homes.

A formal diversion route is available via B1018, B1389, A12, A120, B1018 and vice versa.

While alternative local routes may be available during this time, the proposed diversion is the designated route suitable for all vehicle types. We encourage all drivers to plan ahead and allow extra travelling time for journeys, and observe signage in place.

Please note that dates may change depending on weather conditions or unforeseen issues.

Passenger Transport

Bus operators have confirmed they will continue to serve all stops on the route by following an agreed bus diversion with the operators.

Passengers with queries should contact their bus provider directly.
