Cutting the grass of highway verges is undertaken to ensure the safety of road users and takes place during the late Spring and Summer months.
Essex County Council is only responsible for cutting the grass verges in rural areas which normally takes place twice a year. In specific areas, verges may contain protected plants and cutting can only take place at certain times of the year.
District, borough and city councils deliver urban and rural cuts on our behalf except for rural cuts in Epping, Uttlesford, Colchester and Tendring which are delivered by us. We also cut the grass on the A130 Canvey and A127.
Additional grass cutting will only be undertaken where the grass has grown to cause a visibility concern, typically at road junctions.
