The works

Arrangements have been made to install a new toucan crossing on A134 Northern Approach Road near to Wallace Road, Colchester.

Works are due to start on Monday 9 March 2020 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The majority of the works will be carried out during the day with lane closures in effect from 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday. Temporary two-way traffic lights with pedestrian crossing facilities will be in place.

Wallace Road will be closed for the duration of the works with a diversion route in place via Hakewill Road and Dickenson Way.

A series of overnight road closures are required on A134 Northern Approach road between Turner Road and Dickenson Road and are provisionally booked on the following dates:

  • Monday 9 March 2020 (7pm to 5am)
  • Tuesday 10 March 2020 (7pm to 5am)
  • Tuesday 24 March 2020 (7pm to 5am)

A Local diversion route will be in place during road closures. We would urge drivers to allow additional travelling time and take care to observe traffic management and signage in place, which is necessary to protect the public and the workforce.

The closures are required to remove the existing island, install carriageway ducting and carry out lining works.

To view details regarding the proposed diversion routes please refer to the information in the Document section below.
