Rayners Farm Bridge (VRS), Holland Road, Little Clacton

Latest News - 26 February 2020: Rayners Farm Bridge – temporary fencing removed

We are pleased to confirm the temporary fencing within Network Rail’s land has been removed. The closure on Holland Road planned for the weekend (Saturday 29 February to Monday 2 March) is no longer be required.

There are some minor remedial works required at the bridge, which will be completed at a later date and are not expected to cause disruption.

We would like to thank residents for their co-operation and support during these works.

About the Scheme

Rayners Farm Bridge carries Holland Road over the railway line in Little Clacton.  The bridge is owned and maintained by Network Rail.

We propose to install safety barriers, known as a vehicle restraint system (VRS), to all four corners of the bridge approaches during summer 2019 to reduce the likelihood of a vehicle leaving the carriageway at the bridge/embankment.

We have been liaising closely with Network Rail to gain the necessary permissions for this work, which requires temporary fencing to protect the railway line while a safety barrier system is installed and utility supplies (pipes and cables) are diverted.

These works will be carried out with the support of road closures.

The main construction phase is anticipated to take approximately three months to complete.

The Works

Holland Road will be fully closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the main works which will commence 9pm on Saturday 24 August 2019.

Please note that dates may be subject to change, if affected by poor weather or if unexpected issues arise.

What is involved and how it may affect you

Advance warning notices will be on site to advertise a road closure.  Appropriate traffic management, including diversions will be in place during works.

During road closures, vehicles will be diverted via Holland Road, Great Holland Common Road, Little Clacton Road, Clacton Road (B1032), Frinton Road (B1032), Holland Road (B1032), (A133) Carnarvon Road, Olivers Road / (A133 Wellesley Road, (A133) London Road, (B1027) St John's Road, Thorpe Road (B1369), Holland Road (and vice versa).

When Holland Road is closed, restrictions will apply to all vehicles (24 hours a day) with no vehicles permitted to pass over the structure.

Properties located either side of the bridge will be accessible via the diversion or alterative local routes.

We regret that no pedestrian access will be possible during these works.
