B1393 Palmers Hill / Thornwood Road / B181 The Plain, Epping - traffic signal renewal

The works

Arrangements have been made to replace the traffic signal equipment at the junction of B1393 Palmers Hill / Thornwood Road / B181 The Plain, Epping.
Works are due to start on Monday 19 October 2020 and expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

We will be replacing the traffic signals at the junction before they become unreliable and fail to work properly and we will be installing new extra low voltage equipment which will help reduce our carbon footprint. The pedestrian facilities will also be upgraded to incorporate count down timers, which display the amount of time left to pedestrians to cross the road following the green man period.

Activities will include the replacing or renewing of underground cable ducts under the carriageway and pavements as well as upgrading the traffic signals and associated equipment.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The majority of the works will be carried out during the day between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday with lane restrictions in place managed by temporary traffic signals to provide a safe working area while operatives are on site.

It is possible that the works will take place at the weekend between 9am and 4pm, which will be advised by the construction team.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and for safety, we propose to temporarily relocate the controlled pedestrian crossings to the south of the junction on B1394 Palmers Hill whilst the works are undertaken.

We plan to adjust the traffic management during the scheme to keep travel disruption to a minimum however, we would urge drivers to allow additional travelling time and take care to observe traffic management and signage in place.
