About the scheme
Mundon Wash Bridge carries Mundon Road over the Mundon Wash waterway in Mundon, Maldon.
The bridge dates back to the 1940s and consists of three sections, two reinforced concrete box structures and a concrete pipe that run under the carriageway. An assessment of the structure has found the structure to be in a weak condition and needs to be replaced.
A full closure of the road at Mundon Wash Bridge is now in place to allow the existing structure to be removed and replaced with a combination of two precast concrete box sections which will be placed side by side, along with headwalls and wingwalls that comply with national standards.
Mundon Road was closed at the bridge on Tuesday 23 April 2019 to allow construction work to begin.
We anticipate the road will reopen on Sunday 22 December 2019 following resurfacing of the carriageway. Additional works will be required in early 2020 to complete the project. Activities will include the completion of safety fencing and reinstatement of the adjacent land. We anticipate that these works can be carried out with the support of temporary traffic lights, however details will be confirmed nearer the time.
- Bus Services 31, 31B, 31C, 31X and 33 operated by First Essex Buses will not be able to serve Mundon Village during the closure of Mundon Wash Bridge. A shuttle service is being provided to support passengers - this is being operated by Arrow Taxis.
The shuttle service will operate between Mundon Village (Main Road, Mundon) and The Red Lion in Latchingdon, and from Mundon Road to The White Horse in High Street, Maldon for onward connections with services above. To use this service please telephone Arrow Taxis for bookings on 01621 855111 giving one hours’ notice.
This passenger information will be reflected in local bus stops. See information in Document section below.
- Plume school bus (Hedingham) service - Hedingham have confirmed that from Thursday 25 April they will be able to provide a full service to pupils who are picked up/dropped off at Mundon White Horse in Mundon.
Thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation while we undertake these necessary works.
