About the scheme

Preparations are being made to renew the pedestrian crossing facilities located on Somnes Avenue, Canvey Island near to Meppel Avenue.

The works

Works are due to start on Monday 29 November 2021 and are expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

Activities will include the installation of underground ducting across Somnes Avenue, repairs to the traffic island as well as replacing all above-ground equipment.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The works will be carried out Monday to Friday between 7pm to 5am. During working hours, there will be lane restrictions in place managed by temporary traffic signals to provide a safe working area while operatives are on site. To facilitate this, a road closure on Meppel Avenue will also be required for approximately 20m.

Traffic restrictions will be removed during non-working hours.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and for safety a temporary controlled pedestrian crossing will be installed across Somnes Avenue.

Advance warning notices will be used to advertise the works and appropriate diversions in place during temporary road closures.
