Residents of Finchingfield invited to comment on plans to replace village bridge

The consultation on Essex Highways’ plans to remove and replace the 200-year-old bridge in Finchingfield are now available to view and residents will be able to submit their views from Thursday 19 January.

The plans propose replacing the existing bridge, which is weak and deteriorating with a new bridge and temporary pond crossing, to support traffic flows in the area during bridge construction.

The replacement bridge will be built in the same place as the existing one and where possible, Essex Highways will retain the same look and feel, so as not to impact on the aesthetic of the picturesque village.

Councillor Lee Scott, Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance and Sustainable Transport said: “I understand the bridge in Finchingfield takes pride of place in the centre of the village, but its weak and deteriorating state means it is imperative it is replaced. I would encourage members of the public to take this opportunity to review the plans and share their views with us.”

Further information on the project can be viewed online.

The planning application can also be found in accessible form online.
