Oasis Bridge – road closure for the removal of traffic management on A138 Chelmer Road

We are nearing the final stages of the bridge refurbishment works and are on schedule to remove the traffic management on the A138 Chelmer Road which runs over the top of Oasis Bridge. To accommodate the removal of the lane closures currently in place, an overnight road closure will be required on A138 Chelmer Road on Sunday 21 November 2021.

The road closure will be in place between the hours of 8pm to 5am during which appropriate signs and diversion route will be in place.  When the road reopens on Monday morning, all lanes on the A138 Chelmer Road will be open in both directions.

During the road closure, those travelling on the A138 Chelmer Road (northbound) in the direction of Boreham interchange, after the Toby Carvery Roundabout traffic will be diverted on the exit slip towards the B1137 Springfield Road.  From here it will be possible to re-join the A138 Chelmer Road via the entry slip.

For those travelling southbound (in the direction of the Toby Carvery roundabout), a diversion will be in place via the A130, Colchester Road where you can re-join the A138 Chelmer Road via the Eastern Approach entry slip.

Vehicle access under the bridge will be maintained at all times.

There are some remedial works remaining and the lane closure on B1137 Springfield Road which runs under the bridge will remain in place until the end of November.

Arrangements are being made for UKPN to attend site to carry out works to their apparatus and until this can take place the lane closure on Eastern Approach will remain in place. We will provide a further update as soon as dates are confirmed for when the lane closure can be removed.
