New data shows most young people prefer walking.
Students are being asked to think about the way they travel as colleges across Essex return from the summer holidays.
The Make Your Move campaign by Essex County Council’s sustainable transport team shows the everyday benefits of sustainable travel for young adults.
This includes catching up with friends and staying fit by walking and cycling, instead of reaching for the car keys.
Make Your Move follows *YouGov research commissioned on behalf of the council about the most popular forms of transport for young adults in the UK.

The survey found convenience, speed and cost were the main factors influencing young people’s travel choices.
The six-week Make Your Move campaign runs until mid-October on Instagram and Spotify, as well as on buses across Colchester and Chelmsford.
Councillor Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport, said: “It can be easy to automatically reach for the car keys when meeting up with friends, going to lectures or heading to the gym. However, there are a number of more sustainable alternatives for young people in Essex.
“Make Your Move is all about raising awareness of the different transport options available which fit seamlessly into daily life. This is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to offering greater choices in travel while protecting the environment.
“Keep an eye out for Make Your Move as the campaign runs on Instagram, Spotify and bus advertisements through to mid-October.”
