Lights will remain on from 1am until dawn, helping residents celebrate festive season safely.
Streetlights across Essex will remain on throughout the night over the Christmas and New Year period.
The move will help keep residents safe at a time of year when they are more likely to be travelling later at night.
Currently streetlights are turned off between 1am and 5am, unless district councils are funding them to remain on for longer. This will return from 1 January.
Essex Highways crews will remain on call throughout the Christmas and New Year period responding to severe weather conditions as needed to keep Essex’s roads safe and accessible.

Essex Highways encourages residents to report any concerns over the festive period using the online Tell Us tool.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport, said: “We want everyone in Essex to feel safe when out celebrating during the festive season.
“Keeping streetlights on all night and ensuring our teams are ready to respond to severe weather reflects our commitment to residents.
