Community Access Plans announced for RideLondon

RideLondon, the world’s greatest festival of cycling, comes to Essex for the first time from Friday 27 May - Sunday 29 May thanks to a new partnership with Essex County Council.  

In order for the event to go ahead safely, more than 100 miles of road closures will be in place throughout Sunday 29 May, significantly impacting some areas of Essex and London. There will also be temporary road closures affecting parts of Essex on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 May.

After extensive consultation with residents and businesses, the organisers have published Community Access Plans for Epping Forest, Chelmsford and Uttlesford.

The plans are to help businesses and residents to access property and make essential journeys during the closures. They will also detail the 16 vehicle crossing points available along the RideLondon-Essex 100 route on Sunday 29 May.

Cllr Lee Scott, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport and Highways Maintenance, said: “This is a great event for Essex, which will build on the legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games and the visit of Tour de France in 2014. It's an event which will open up less well-known areas of the county to visitors.

“If you live on the route and need to go out and about, please plan ahead and check the road closure map and access plans in advance.”

As well as the RideLondon-Essex 100 and RideLondon-Essex 60 on Sunday 29 May, a three-day UCI Women’s WorldTour stage race, the RideLondon Classique, takes place from Friday 27 May to Sunday 29 May with the first two stages on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 May in Essex. Stage One starts and finishes in Maldon and includes two laps of Abberton Reservoir while Stage Two starts in Chelmsford, heads north as far as Great Sampford before returning south through the county and finishing in Epping.”
