Charities invited to apply for Essex County Council’s RideLondon-Essex 100 rider places

Essex charities have until 19 April to register interest in places to take part in huge fundraising bike ride on Sunday 29 May

RideLondon – one of the world’s greatest cycling events - returns this year on Sunday 29 May 2022 with a new format and, thanks to a partnership with Essex County Council, a new route taking in the picturesque towns and villages of Essex.

At the heart of this celebration of all things cycling is the RideLondon-Essex 100 challenge – a unique opportunity to ride 100 miles on traffic-free roads through the heart of London and neighbouring Essex.

This mass participation event will welcome 25,000 cyclists beginning on the Embankment in central London, taking in the sights of Essex including Epping Forest, Ongar, the Rodings and Great Dunmow before returning to London to finish at the iconic Tower Bridge.

The formal process for charities to register for the event has now closed but Essex County Council has an allocation of 150 stakeholder tickets which it has opted to allocate to local charities. The tickets are priced at £89 each. The average return for charities on a single RideLondon entry is £800.

Cllr Lee Scott, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Sustainable Transport, said: “With the RideLondon-Essex 100 already heavily oversubscribed we’ve decided to use our stakeholder allocation to benefit local charities.

“Whatever your charity’s size or cause, this is a unique opportunity to be a part of one of the world’s largest cycling events. The event is televised, and we expect thousands of spectators along the route, so it is a fantastic way to raise both the profile of your charity and much needed funds for good causes.”

Charities can register interest for a maximum of 10 tickets each by the deadline of 5pm on 19 April 2022.

Riders must be aged 18 or over.
