Can you help shape the future of transport in the Maldon district?

Residents asked to share their views on the future of transport in Maldon

A consultation has opened this week on a new transport strategy for the district. The Maldon Future Transport Strategy has been created by Essex County Council in conjunction with Maldon District Council.

It looks at how we travel, the journeys we make and what the priorities should be in years to come.

Residents are asked to share their views to shape the strategy.

Once finalised, the strategy will form a blueprint that will be used to identify, appraise and assess potential highway schemes, and provide evidence for funding bids.

Setting out our three different zonal areas, the strategy identifies different priorities for the district’s town centres, strategic roads and rural and coastal areas.

Cllr Lesley Wagland OBE, Cabinet Member for Economic Renewal, Infrastructure and Planning at Essex County Council, said: “Transport and how it evolves impacts us all. From future housing and business growth, our health and wellbeing, to improving air quality and the environment, as well as how we access services and amenities, transport sits at the heart of it all.

“It is an extremely important document that will ultimately form our approach to transport planning over the coming years. I would urge people to read it and give their views to help shape it.

“We know that there are different transport needs in the district so the strategy looks at how we approach this is a balanced way- creating a platform to assess and then prioritise future projects for funding.”

Councillor Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: “I am delighted to see the Maldon District Future Transport Strategy consultation being launched. It is a longer-term strategy that explores transport issues in the district and reviews what changes and investment could be made in the future, to tackle problems such as air pollution, congestion, public transport routes and frequency, as well as getting more people up and about, walking and cycling where they are able to.

“I hope we will be able to make the case for securing more funding from the Government to invest in our transport projects to make positive changes happen. This is an opportunity to plan for our sustainable transport needs and address climate action, I encourage residents to take part in this important consultation and to give their views.”

Consultation on the draft strategy opened on 12 June and will run for six weeks.

It can be viewed our Maldon Future Transport Strategy page.

Hard copies are available at local public buildings.
