Bunny Walks walking and cycling improvements to start this December

Improvement works will boost safety on key route in Chelmsford city centre.

Work to improve a key walking and cycling route in Chelmsford city centre is set to get underway next month.

The improvements to Bunny Walks, which connects Broomfield and Springfield to the City Centre, will see new surfacing and tactile paving installed. This will help increase safety for pedestrians and those on bikes.

Upgrading the route between Victoria Road and Hillview Road, the works follow an earlier project to enhance the Victoria Road Toucan Crossing, with a new widened crossing and walking/cycling facilities switched.

Welcoming the improvements, Councillor Tom Cunningham, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport said:“These are important enhancements to a well-used part of Chelmsford’s walking and cycling network, helping to create a safer, greener, healthier network and better connecting people with Riverside and the City Centre.”

Works on the first section of Bunny Walks, between Victoria Road and the first bridge crossing, will start on Monday 4 December and will be completed before Christmas. The section to Hillview Road will begin in January and will take around six weeks.

Works on the bridges will be undertaken in February and March, depending on weather and water levels.

Diversion routes for pedestrians and cyclists will be via Victoria Road, Bunny Walks (dependant on the section being worked on), Brook Street, New Street and vice versa.
