Boxted Bridge – latest news

Load testing has already been carried out on Boxted Bridge. It found the bridge can safely be reopened to cyclists and pedestrians but must remain closed to vehicles. This will allow us to keep people safe while maintaining the existing structure. The safety of roads and structures in Essex is our highest priority and Boxted Bridge is not an exception.

The load testing carried out provided enough information for a model to be created that represents the behaviour of the bridge. An assessment of the bridge using this model will be undertaken to check the capacity of the bridge to carry highway loading in accordance with current National Standards.

 A detailed inspection will be carried out week commencing 11 May 2026, this will support the assessment as required by National Standard.
