A133 Work finished at Weeley and Frating Roundabout – part of Colchester to Clacton improvements

Works to improve the A133, a key route providing a link to and from Colchester and the seaside resort of Clacton-on-Sea, have been successfully completed.

Construction began in winter 2020 to widen the northern approach of Weeley Roundabout, and to introduce a new left-turn slip at the Frating Roundabout. Other modifications and safety improvements were also carried out on the roads.

Works on these roundabouts were carried out simultaneously, with Weeley finished first in early April, while works continued at Frating Roundabout.

Jacksons Civil Engineering have now demobilised the site compound at Frating but will revisit the site in the autumn to complete tree planting and landscaping.

The work has been funded by Essex County Council and the government’s South East Local Enterprise Partnership who made £3.25m available for the improvements which are designed to support economic growth and provide safety improvements to the route. The re-designed roundabouts also increase journey time reliability by easing traffic flow for motorists.
