27 July 2020 Press Release

A133 Ipswich Rd works Update: Temporary one-way system for A133 / Ipswich Rd South in place from 3 August until 7 September

The A133 Ipswich Road roundabout highway improvements are continuing, with works now well underway on the replacement of the existing retaining wall adjacent to the Clacton to Colchester railway mainline.

To complete this critical phase of works Essex Highways need to make Ipswich Road South one way for traffic leaving northbound from 3rd August until 7th September. The carriageway space this will provide will enable the installation of the southern end of the new strengthened cantilever wall, a major part of the new Ipswich Road roundabout improvements.

We have carefully planned the operation to keep traffic flow possible northbound as this will alleviate congestion for traffic leaving the town whilst the East Gates railway crossing is down.

We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation whilst we undertake these improvements.

We would encourage residents and businesses to also check the Essex Highways website for the latest updates including any changes to traffic management arrangements:  www.essex.gov.uk/majorschemes (follow the link to the A133 Ipswich Road improvement scheme, Colchester).
