About the scheme

Plans are being made for works to take place on Hoppit Bridge which carries Notley Road over the River Brain in Braintree. The bridge is located immediately between Notley Road’s junction with Godlings Way and St John’s Avenue.

The bridge deck is currently in a weakened condition and needs replacing. The bridge was constructed in two stages, the original deck on the west side and part of the extended section on the east wide will be removed and rebuilt. The new deck will comprise of pre-stressed concrete beams and a reinforced concrete deck.

The works

Main works to replace the bridge deck commenced in October 2021 and the road was reopened on Friday 4 February 2022.

There are some remedial works remaining including replacing the East parapet and landscaping which we anticipate will be carried out by mid-March 2022. Further information will be made available as soon as dates and traffic management requirements are confirmed.
