About the works

Preparations are being made to improve the pedestrian crossing facilities located on Stock Road in Billericay.

We will be replacing the current zebra crossing with a new light controlled puffin crossing to better serve the needs of pedestrians and help manage traffic congestion along Stock Road.

How it will affect you

The work is due to begin on Friday 11 February 2022 and is anticipated to complete by early March 2022, subject to weather being suitable and no unexpected issues arising.

While some of the works will be carried out during the daytime with the support of temporary traffic signals including temporary pedestrian crossings, night works will also be necessary at other times.

A limited number of overnight road closures will be needed to support specific activities including resurfacing and installing ducting across the carriageway as they cannot be safely carried out with traffic permitted.

We currently expect closures will be required over four nights and will be advertised on site signage:

  • Friday 11 February
  • Saturday 12 February
  • Monday 21 February
  • Tuesday 22 February

The closures will affect Stock Road from a point approximately 50m north-east of its junction with Oakwood Drive for a distance of approximately 170m in a north-easterly direction.  The road will reopen following each shift.

Access to properties will be possible either side of the closure point, however there may be some delays depending on activities taking place.

We advise drivers to consider allowing additional travelling time and taking additional care when passing through the area. Please check this webpage for updates.

Alternative temporary crossing facilities will be maintained throughout this period for pedestrians.

Bus operators have been notified about the works so they can make appropriate adjustments to their services.
