Moreton Bridge, Moreton

About the scheme:

Repairs to Moreton Bridge, a Grade II listed structure on Bridge Road, Moreton near Chipping Ongar have been completed.

Works began in 2016 to rebuild and repair cracked sections of the bridge parapets using traditional materials and methods which including handmade bricks and lime mortar, maintaining its character and preserving the use of the bridge for the future.

Carriageway re-alignment works were also undertaken to improve the passage of vehicles over the bridge and a special shaped bollard was installed for added protection against vehicle strikes.

The site was revisited during August 2017 to complete the works to the bridge, replacing the temporary concrete cappings with hand measured and cut Portland Stone after the original stones were found to be in an unusable condition during earlier repairs.
