About the scheme

Carriageway improvements are planned on an 800 metre section of Rectory Road starting from its junction with Littlefield working our way up to the junction of The Cross. New drainage and gullies will be installed along this section to resolve the standing water issues

What is involved and how it may affect you

The works are planned to start from Monday 18 January 2021 and are expected to take approximately three months to complete.

The majority of the improvements will be carried out during the daytime, Monday to Friday. A road closure on Rectory Road will be required for the full duration of the works however, to minimise disruption to residents the works will be carried out in phases to limit the amount of properties affected by the restrictions at any one time.

The first phase will start from the junction of Littlefield working our way up Rectory Road to the junction of The Cross.

During working hours resident access will be managed on the closed sections of road by a gatesperson using a one-way system to guide residents through the works. During non-working hours the works area will be protected by barriers and access will be maintained using the one-way system.

Advance signage will be on site and vehicle diversions displayed during the works. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

As the works involve excavations, reconstruction and surfacing of the carriageway there may be periods when driveway access will be temporarily restricted within the closed section of road. The on-site team will be available to provide residents with guidance on parking, for those who are affected by the works.

Passenger transport

We anticipate some bus services will be affected by planned road closures.  Bus operators have been informed of our works and made aware of the planned diversion route. We are working with Essex Passenger Transport team to minimise any inconvenience.
