Main Road, Broomfield – Traffic signal renewal

Works location and photo

Main Road, Broomfield where works will be taking place

About the scheme

Preparations are being made to renew the traffic signals located on Main Road, Broomfield south of Williams Road.

The works

Works are due to start on Monday 1 February 2021 and expected to take approximately four weeks to complete.

We will be replacing the traffic signals at the junction before they become unreliable and fail to work properly and will be installing new extra low voltage equipment. The pedestrian facilities will also be upgraded from a pelican to puffin crossing.

Activities will include the replacing or renewing underground cable ducts under the carriageway and pavements as well as replacing equipment above ground.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The majority of the works will be carried out between the hours of 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday with lane restrictions in place managed by temporary traffic signals to provide a safe working area while operatives are on site.

We currently anticipate that a limited number of full road closures on Main Road will be required overnight to allow work to take place across the carriageway.

Closures have been provisionally booked for the following nights, between the hours of 8pm to 5am:

  • Monday 1 February 2021
  • Tuesday 2 February 2021
  • Wednesday 3 February 2021

The road will reopen after each shift.

Access for residents located within the closure and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times during road closures by a gatesperson.

Advance warning notices will be used to advertise the works and appropriate diversions in place during temporary road closures.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and for safety, we propose to install a temporary controlled pedestrian crossings across Main Road whilst the works are undertaken.

Passenger transport

We anticipate some bus services will be affected by planned road closures.  Bus operators have been informed of our works and made aware of the planned diversion route.
