Supporting the Future Growth of Harlow and Gilston

Harlow Gilston Garden Town Scheme

Works location

About the scheme

The Harlow and Gilston Garden Town (HGGT) is a partnership between five local authorities working together to deliver around 23,000 new homes and supporting infrastructure across the area over the coming decades.

The main development sites include:

  • Gilston
  • East of Harlow
  • Water Lane
  • Latton Priory
  • Additional housing and regeneration projects within Harlow Town Centre

These developments will help create new homes, community facilities, employment opportunities, and transport improvements to support future growth across the region.

Eastwick Road Closure

As part of the wider Central Stort Crossing North and Gilston Area Improvement Works, Eastwick Road is closed for seven weeks from 21 September.

The closure is required to allow essential construction activities to safely take place as part of the infrastructure improvements supporting the Garden Town programme.

The A414 remains open for traffic travelling to and from Harlow.

For the latest road closure information and diversion routes, please visit One Network.

Changes to Bus Services

The Eastwick Road closure will mainly affect Bus 33A service several during the works.

The 33A service will be diverted via Redricks Lane between High Wych and Harlow and will no longer serve bus stops in Gilston.

Passengers are advised to use alternative stops at:

  • Harlow Edinburgh Way
  • High Wych Rising Sun PH

The 33 service will terminate at Gilston and continue operating between Gilston and Bishop's Stortford.

Free Shuttle Service

A free 33H shuttle bus service will operate between Gilston and Harlow via Redricks Lane, providing a direct connection into Harlow town centre.

Passengers travelling to and from Hoddesdon will be encouraged to connect with the 25 service where appropriate.
