About the scheme

Arrangements have been made to replace the traffic signal equipment on A133 Carnarvon Road/B1032 High Street junction which includes repairing or replacing cable ducts that run under the road and footways.

The purpose of the work is to replace signal equipment that has reached its life expectancy before it becomes unreliable and fails to work properly.  They are also designed to better serve the needs of pedestrians including those with disabilities.

These works are part of a county-wide investment to renew traffic lights as they come to the end of their expected life, before they become unreliable and fail to work properly due to deterioration over time.

The works

For the duration of the works, traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals which will replicate the existing sequence.  A temporarily controlled pedestrian crossing will be available at the location of the existing crossing during the works.

During certain phases of the works, road closures will be necessary.  This will include a road closure on the southwestern approach of the High Street junction B1032.

In addition, lane reductions will be needed reducing traffic to one lane in each direction during daytime working hours (typically off-peak between 9.30am and 3.30pm, with some work up to 7pm).

What is involved and how it may affect you

Work is due to start on Friday 6 September 2019 and is anticipated to take approximately six weeks to complete.

During this time a road closure on the southwestern approach of the High Street junction B1032 will be required for two nights on Monday 9 September and Tuesday 10 September.

We appreciate this is a traffic sensitive site much of the work will be carried out Monday to Friday during day time off-peak hours, however, some overnight working is anticipated later in the program.

Please note that traffic management will be adjusted according to various activities being carried out. We would urge drivers to allow additional traveling time as some delays may be experienced during the works, and take extra care to check signs in place that are designed to protect the public and the workforce.

We appreciate these works may cause temporary noise and inconvenience to residents and businesses for which we would like to apologise.
