About the scheme

Highway improvements are due to take place on a section of Abridge Road in Chigwell in the New Year where it meets the junction of High Road and Chigwell Lane.

We will be concentrating on drainage improvements, with works planned in a systematic way working from east to west.  Activities will involve identify pipe lines as well as utility services through trial hole investigations and undertaking jetting activities and drainage surveys including CCTV.  Drainage pipes and gullies will be replaced and new kerbs installed with existing ditches regraded.  Some vegetation clearance will be needed to support these activities.

We are working closely with our footways improvements team to consolidate works where possible in the area, to minimise local inconvenience.

What is involved and how this may affect you

Plans are being made to begin works on Monday 4 January, with the scheme expected to complete before the end of February 2021.

Our work programme may be subject to delays if we experience poor weather or if unexpected issues arise.

There will be periods when the existing traffic lights will be turned off, replaced by temporary traffic lights to manage traffic flows at the junction during our works. Initially we expect three way temporary traffic lights will support the work before being reduced to two way lights in February when the works will move to the west side of the junction down High Road.

The work will be conducted in phases with adjustments made to traffic management according to the location and activities being carried out.  We therefore encourage drivers to allow additional journey times and to always observe on-site signage.

Pedestrian routes will be maintained during our works with access to properties will be maintained throughout the works, although there may be temporary delays depending on activities being carried out.
