Drury Road / Maldon Road / Shrub End, Colchester – Traffic Signal Renewal

Works location

About the scheme

Preparations are being made to renew the traffic signals at the junction of Drury Road / Maldon Road / Shrub End, Colchester.

The works

Works are due to start on Monday 8 February 2021 and expected to take approximately five weeks to complete.

We will be replacing the traffic signals at the junction before they become unreliable and fail to work properly and will be installing new extra low voltage equipment, which will help reduce our carbon footprint. The pedestrian facilities will also be upgraded from far side to near side.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The majority of the works will be carried out during the day Monday to Friday, with lane restrictions in place managed by temporary traffic signals to provide a safe working area for the workforce.

We currently anticipate that two overnight road closures on Maldon Road will be required to allow work to take place across the carriageway. Maldon Road will be closed from its junction with Shrub End Road to its junction with Drury Road. These have provisionally been booked during the week commencing Monday 8 February 2021. The road will be reopened following each shift.

Advance warning notices will be used to advertise the works and appropriate diversions in place during temporary road closures.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and for safety, we propose to install a temporary controlled pedestrian crossings across Drury Road whilst the works are undertaken.

We urge all drivers to take additional care and observe traffic management and signage in place during the closures.

Passenger travel information

Bus operators have been informed of our works so that they can consider what adjustments may need to be made to their services during temporary road closures.

The bus stop located nearest to the traffic signals on Maldon Road will remain open during the road closures however may need to be temporarily relocated.
