Safety barrier pre-installation works in progress

Latest News

Our overnight works to improve the safety barriers to the outer ring of the Broadway Link Roundabout are progressing well.  To date pre-installation works have included resetting kerb inlet gullies, and excavating areas ready to receive concrete.

Concrete plinth bays are being constructed around the roundabout ready for new vehicle restraint system (VRS) to be mounted on to them, with arrangements made for a specialised contractor to come in later next month to install the VRS.

Gully cleaning operations are also taking place by our local gully team while traffic management is in place, to maximise efficiency.

We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience during these works which we aim to complete by 20 November with weather permitting and no unexpected issues arising.

About the scheme

We propose to install safety barriers, known as a vehicle restraint system (VRS) to the outer ring of the Broadway Link Roundabout, located under the A13 in Pitsea. The purpose of the scheme is to improve safety by reducing the likelihood of a vehicle leaving the carriageway.

Improvements will also be made to the roundabout signage as part of the scheme.

The works

Work began on Monday 28 September 2020 and are expected to complete on 20 November 2020, subject to weather permitting and no unexpected issues arising.

As this is a traffic sensitive site the majority of the work will be carried out overnight Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7pm and 5am.

Temporary lane restrictions will be in place on the roundabout and its approaches reducing the carriageway to one lane to protect the public and the workforce during working hours.

During non-working hours these temporary restrictions will be lifted to allow normal traffic flows.

Pedestrian access through the area, including the subway will remain be unaffected by our works.

We appreciate that these works will generate temporary noise and local inconvenience. We would like to apologise in advance for this. Efforts will be taken to minimise disruption where possible.

We recommend that road users allow extra travelling time through the area and always check local signs and traffic management in place.

Further information

Please note arrangements can sometimes be subject to change at short notice due to unsuitable weather conditions or if unexpected issues arise. The latest information will be reflected on site signage and this webpage.
