About the scheme

Arrangements are currently being made to carry out repair works on Alresford Viaduct located on B1027 St Osyth Road, Alresford, Tendring. The works are due to begin on Saturday 15 October 2022 with the support of weekend road closures.

Following a structural capacity assessment, a 3 tonne weight restriction has been implemented. The weight limit is currently in review following structural investigations and will be updated in due course. The weight restriction will remain in place until further notice. A signed diversion route is currently in design and will be implemented in due course, this will involve a number of temporary traffic management signal to be in place for a short period of time along the agreed diversion route to accommodate the installation of signs.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The works are due to commence on Saturday 15 October 2022 with the support of a number of weekend road closures at the Viaduct. Works are anticipated to be completed by the end of November 2022. Please note that dates may be subject to change if poor weather or unexpected issues arise which affect the work programme.

Road closures are currently scheduled to take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday 26 November to Monday 28 November 2022

Signed diversions will be in place during the road closures as no vehicles will be permitted to pass over the structure. Please note the majority of the works will be under the structure and there will be minimal presence at the top of the bridge during working hours. Working hours will be continuous throughout the dates indicated above with work also being undertaken overnight.

We appreciate these works may cause some local inconvenience however would like to assure you that it is important they are carried out.  Please support us by taking additional care travelling in the area, allowing extra travelling time, and observing signage in place.
