About the scheme
A programme of footway maintenance is about to begin on Heywood Way and surrounding areas in Heybridge, to address defects and surface irregularities.
These works are a pre-treatment for future slurry sealing activities, that will provide a weather protection barrier to preserve the surface and improve skid resistance. These works will ultimately extend the service life of our footpaths.
These pre-treatment activities will begin on 20 April and continue until the end of July 2026.
Areas currently identified for improvement include:
- Heywood Way
- Hillary Close
- Hunt Avenue
- Everest Way
- Wood Road
Significant defects in footway and kerbs will be addressed, as well as surface levelling. These works will be carried out in stages during the daytime, to minimise local inconvenience.
The slurry sealing programme will be carried out at a later date (to be communicated separately).
How the work will affect you
Works are due to start on 20 April 2026 with the mobilisation of the site team, with activities phased to minimise local inconvenience.
Work will take place between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday with no planned weekends.

Throughout these works, pedestrian routes will be maintained however short detours around the working area may be required.
Most of the time traffic will be managed using a Give and Take arrangement. Traffic marshalls will be on site to provide assistance as required.
Please note that dates may be subject to change if the works are affected by poor weather or if unexpected issues arise.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out these improvements.
Clearway/No parking restrictions
Clearways, or no parking zones will be in place to deter vehicles from parking on the street where work activities are taking place. This is necessary to prevent delays that can be caused by restricted access to work area, or hinderance to traffic flows in the area. During these times we respectfully ask that residents seek alternative parking arrangements.
Further information
Residents directly affected by these works will be contacted directly. Updates, traffic management and access information will be reflected on local signage and this webpage as information becomes available.
