About the scheme

As part of developer funded scheme from Persimmons with Barconn Construction undertaking works on their behalf highway improvement works will be taking place on Centenary Way and Thorpe Road, Clacton-on-Sea from Monday 15 September until the end of November 2025.

The works involve the following:

Carriageway widening on Centenary Way to allow provision of dedicated right turn lane and central traffic islands for access into development site. Associated carriageway resurfacing on Centenary Way.
Widening of existing cycleway to 3m along the extent of Centenary Way between the roundabout for the entrance to Morrissons to the roundabout with Thorpe Road.
Widening of western footway on Thorpe Road to 2m from the roundabout with Centenary Way to approximately 90m south.

How the work will affect you

To minimise disruption in the area the works will be carried out in phases. Traffic management will be adjusted according to the activity taking place.

A temporary speed limit of 40mph will be in place for the full duration of the works.

Details of the proposed phasing and traffic management is listed below:

Phase 4 – Starting W/C 27 October 2025	Centenary Way	Footway construction and pedestrian island realignments. Three-way Temporary lights. Overnight works between the hours of 7pm to 5am
Phase 5 – Starting W/C 27 October 2025	Centenary Way	Footway construction. Two-way temporary traffic lights and footway closure. Pedestrians will be diverted using a temporary footway
Phase 6 – Starting W/C 10 November 2025	Centenary Way	Footway construction Footway closure with pedestrians diverted using a temporary footway
Phase 7 – Starting W/C 17 November 2025	Thorpe Road	Footway construction on Thorpe Road. Footway closure with temporary controlled pedestrian crossing to divert to opposite footway
Phase 8 – Starting W/C 26 November 2025	Centenary Way	Carriageway resurfacing Overnight closure between the hours of 7pm to 5am

Traffic management will be in place 24/7, unless stated as overnight works in which case traffic management will only be in place for those hours stated.
