Welcome to the Highways Service Information Centre
Plans are in place to upgrade the existing junction between Braintree Road and B1256 Braintree Road/Dunmow Bypass in Great Dunmow, to a signalised junction, starting September 2025.
Our aim is to reduce the number of accidents that occur at this location, improving the safety for all who use the junction.
The signals installation will also coincide with a reduction in the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph at the junction affecting both Braintree Road and B1256 Braintree Road/Dunmow Bypass.
Work is due to start on Monday 22 September 2025 overnight, between the hours of 7pm and 5am to limit the impact on local businesses and commuters. These works are anticipated to complete by the end of November 2025.
We endeavour to complete the noisiest operations by 11pm, with other activities continuing for the remainder of each shift.
Temporary traffic signals will be necessary during the working hours to ensure a safe working area, as well as phased road closures.
Where possible, traffic restrictions will be lifted or reduced during daytime hours, subject to the safety of the junction being maintained.
We encourage all drivers to take extra care when travelling in the area, observing all signage in place.
Dates may be subject to change if we experience unsuitable weather conditions or if unexpected issues arise.
