A130 County Route - maintenance works

About the works

CountyRoute has operated the A130 between the A12 at Howe Green Interchange and the A1245 Rayleigh Spur on behalf of Essex County Council since 2002, when the northern section of the route first opened to traffic.

CountyRoute are planning to carry out essential maintenance during November 2026 to improve the road surface and condition. This will help provide smoother journeys for road users and extend the life of the road.

This forms part of of their ongoing maintenance programme for the A130, with further works expected in the future as part of its long‑term upkeep. This will be delivered in phases to maximise efficiency and minimise inconvenience for road users and local communities.

How it will affect you

To support these works, a full road closure will be required over two consecutive weekends in November 2026, with one direction of travel remaining open at all times.

These closures are esential to provide a safe and controlled working environment is provided for crews carrying out the carriageway maintenance and to protect road users. 

This approach enables the activities to be completed more efficiently, allowing teams to focus on several areas within the same programme while maintaining access in the opposite direction

Please be aware that surfacing works are weather dependent so arrangements may change at short notice if poor weather or unforeseen circumstances affect the schedule.

Diversion route 

During closures of the A130, a signed diversion will be in place via the A12 and A127 at Gallows Corner.

Please be aware that some drivers may choose alternative local routes which may result in increased traffic on surrounding roads.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow additional time for their journeys and follow temporary signage in place.

CountyRoute will monitor conditions and seek to minimise disruption wherever possible.

Passenger Transport

As closures of the A130 may affect bus services, operators have been informed of these works so that they can consider route changes and adjusting timetables as appropriate.

Passengers are advised to check directly with their bus operator for the latest information about individual services, including any changes to routes, stops or journey times.
