St Botolph’s Circus Roundabout – Colchester

St Botolph’s Circus Roundabout is located to the south of Colchester town centre, next to Colchester Town railway station. It sits on the A134 Southway at its junction with St Botolph’s Street, Mersea Road and Magdalen Street.

At the surface, St Botolph’s Circus Roundabout is often congested with vehicular traffic which will continue to worsen if no improvements are made.

Below the surface, the roundabout is used as an underpass that is currently unappealing and derelict. Additionally, the open space located in the centre of the roundabout attracts antisocial behaviour.

Essex County Council is currently looking at potential options for improvement to the roundabout. Investigation works at the site of the roundabout are planned to take place from mid to late March 2019.

Further information about the scheme will be published on this page as it becomes available.

From 18 March 2019: We will be undertaking drainage inspection works to support development of the options for improving the roundabout. Works within the carriageway will be undertaken at night when traffic volumes are at their lowest, however there may still be Contractor presence during the daytime for inspection works off the carriageway.

Information is also available on roadworks.org.
