Welcome to the Highways Service Information Centre
In Phase One of our programme, we have been working with other district councils in Essex to implement on-street measures designed to make city/town centre public spaces safer for people during the Covid-19 crisis.
Called ‘Safer, Greener, Healthier’, the schemes aim to provide bigger, safer spaces in key locations for city centre shoppers, residents, workers and visitors to social distance. These safety improvements were funded by national government from the Active Travel Fund Phase One as part of the national response to the Covid-19 situation

We have provided guidance in the documents section below for Borough / City / District / Parish / Town Councils, shop owners, and high street management teams to follow, for placing stencilling / tape / stick on / notices / posters on or over the public highway in Essex during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the highway authority, Essex County Council will only accept items that meet this guidance.
