Chance for all to ask questions about proposed Army and Navy Sustainable Transport Package at online consultation events

Residents, road-users, walkers and cyclists invited to view and have their say on Army and Navy junction proposals at upcoming online consultation events. 

The public are encouraged to take the chance to ask questions about proposals to improve the Army and Navy junction in Chelmsford by attending upcoming consultation events.

Essex County Council has thoroughly assessed a number of potential junction layouts and walking, cycling and passenger transport improvements, and is now consulting on a proposed Army and Navy Sustainable Transport Package.

The consultation focuses on two junction options – a hamburger roundabout (a roundabout with a road through the centre of it) and separate T-junctions – as well as the proposed expansion of Sandon Park and Ride, a new Park and Ride site to the west of Chelmsford in Widford and wider walking and cycling improvements.

To provide the public with the opportunity to ask questions about the project, the council is hosting a series of online and face-to-face consultation events.

The latest live web chat session, which allows people to message the project team via a virtual exhibition, takes place from 10am until 1pm on Friday (3 September). A further live web chat session is planned from 2pm until 5pm on Saturday, 18 September.

The project team will also be available in-person outside Barclays bank in Chelmsford High Street on Saturday, 11 September (12noon - 4pm) and Thursday, 16 September (1pm - 5pm). Appropriate measures will be in place to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, in line with the latest Government guidance.

Finally, the second of two live webcasts on Microsoft Teams is scheduled for Thursday, 9 September from 8pm to 9pm, and will feature a short presentation about the proposals and a question and answer session.

Cllr Lesley Wagland OBE, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Renewal, Infrastructure and Planning, said: “The Army and Navy Sustainable Transport Package is an unmissable opportunity to provide better options for people to travel in Chelmsford and to improve journeys at this crucial gateway.

“We know people will have a lot of questions about our proposals and have therefore organised a variety of online and face-to-face consultation events to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate.

“Our virtual exhibition is also available 24/7 throughout the consultation so that people can visit at a time to suit them. The exhibition includes all of the information you would expect to find at a traditional consultation event, as well as visualisations showing how the proposed junction options would look and work for different modes of transport.

“This public consultation is a chance to help shape the design of this very important junction, and I would encourage everyone to take part and have their say.”

The Army and Navy Sustainable Transport Package public consultation is open until Sunday, 3 October.
