The works

Arrangements have been made to renew the traffic signals at the junction of Chelmsford Road, Rawreth Lane, Church Road, Rayleigh.

Works are due to start on Monday 14 September 2020 and expected to take approximately seven weeks to complete.

We will be replacing the traffic signals at the junction before they become unreliable and fail to work properly and will be installing new extra low voltage equipment which will help reduce our carbon footprint.

What is involved and how it may affect you

Works will be carried out between 7pm to 5am, Monday to Friday. To manage traffic during the works a combination of lane closures, closures of individual approaches and a number of full junction closures will be required.

The junction closures required will be implemented in four separate phases and will be required for each of the four approaches to the junction (A1245 Chelmsford Road Southbound, Rawreth Lane, A1245 Chelmsford Road Northbound and Church Road). Please be advised only one closure will be active at any one time to minimise disruption.

To view details of the proposed phases please refer to the document section below. Please note phases may not run in order.

Advanced warning notices will be in place prior to any works commencing and appropriate diversion routes will be implemented during closures.

During non-working hours, traffic management restrictions will be lifted where possible to allow the temporary traffic lights to work in a similar way to the existing signals to control traffic at the junction.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and for safety, we propose to install temporary controlled pedestrian crossing across Chelmsford Road.

Access to properties on Bedloes Avenue will be maintained during the closure of the A1245 Chelmsford Rd southbound by mean of manual control/gatemen.
