The works

Arrangements have been made to replace the existing zebra crossing with a new puffin crossing at Eastwood Road A1015 near to The Chase. The scheme has been approved by the Local Highway Panel and has been designed to provide a safe crossing point that is more suitable to the high pedestrian footfall in this area.

Works are due to start on Monday 14 September 2020 and are expected to take approximately five weeks to complete.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The majority of the works will be carried out 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.  Temporary traffic management will be required to support the works including lane restrictions managed by temporary traffic signals to provide a safe working area while operatives are on site.

Traffic restrictions will be adjusted according to progress made on site to ensure the safety of the public and the workforce.  Where possible restrictions will be reduced outside of working hours.

We anticipate that a limited number of full road closures on Eastwood Road will be required overnight to allow work to take place across the carriageway.

Closures have been provisionally booked for the following nights, between the hours of 8pm to 6am:

  • Monday 14 September
  • Tuesday 15 September
  • Friday 18 September
  • Friday 25 September
  • Tuesday 29 September

Following each shift Eastwood Road will reopen to traffic.

A Local diversion route will be in place during road closures. We would urge drivers to allow additional travelling time and take care to observe traffic management and signage in place.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and for safety we propose to install a temporary controlled pedestrian crossings across Eastwood Road while the works take place.
