A127 Rayleigh Weir Signals upgrade

Update - 4 August - Overnight works planned 7 to 23 August 2017

Overnight works to complete footway re-surfacing and kerb realignment at Rayleigh Weir are programmed as follows:

Monday 7 August to 23 August, inclusive of weekends. Working hours will be between 8pm and 5am with traffic managed with temporary lane reductions that will be lifted outside of these hours.

Accesses to and from businesses and retail area will be maintained (A127 eastbound offslip).  Pedestrian routes will also be maintained.

Please observe local signage and take additional care when passing through the area.

Thank you for your continued patience while we undertake these works.

About the scheme:

A programme of traffic signals improvements are planned for the A127 Rayleigh Weir and A129 Stadium Way junctions in Rayleigh.

The works will involve removing and upgrading the signals with the latest technology to enable better connectivity and for the signals on Rayleigh Weir to be linked with the signals on the Stadium Way junction, helping to manage traffic flow from the A127 slip roads and adjoining routes, and improving reliability of the signals.

In additional CCTV camera will be installed to enable the Essex Traffic Control Centre to monitor and control the signals as necessary.

Footway and carriageway repairs and improvements will be undertaken as part of the scheme.

The work has been funded by through the A127 Corridor for Growth improvement package funded by South Essex Local Enterprise Partnership.

The works

Site mobilisation will begin December 2016, with main works expected to commence January 2017. The target completion date is late spring 2017.

What is involved and how may it affect you?

As this is a traffic sensitive site, the main elements of the work are required to be undertaken overnight with seven day week working permitted between the hours of 7pm - 5am, Monday to Saturday and 4pm – 5am on Sundays.

We will endeavour to undertake the nosiest operations before 11pm, however works will continue for the remainder of the shift.

It is expected that some elements of the scheme will be undertaken during the day time.

Lane reductions will be necessary during the scheme, including the temporary overnight closure of Stadium Way to provide safe working areas and to accommodate excavation works for the installation of underground cables across carriageway.

Details regarding the closures will be notified in advance on local signage and updated on this web page.

Alternative access arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists will be made available during the works.
