Springfield Road/Navigation Road junction improvements start April 2024

Following the diversion of utility supplies in 2023, junction improvements to Springfield Road and Navigation Road in Chelmsford are ready to go ahead. Taylor Wimpey are required to carry out these works to improve vehicle capacity, pedestrian facilities and journey times as part of their planning condition for the Chelmer Waterside Peninsular development (planning reference 16/01630/FUL).

Works are expected to start on 2 April 2024 with the support of a section of Springfield Road fully closed to northbound traffic between the Tesco Delivery/recycle centre service road and Navigation Road junction close to the junction. Temporary traffic lights will also be needed to manage flows travelling southbound and at the Navigation Road junction while contractors install new traffic signals, improve pedestrian crossing points, widen the road and upgrade drainage and street lighting.

Temporary restrictions will be adjusted according to activities taking place, with access to adjacent properties and Bond Street car park maintained throughout the works.

As a traffic sensitive area we encourage drivers to allow extra travelling time as delays are possible, and to observe all signage in place.

Later in the programme a limited number of full road closures will be required to support final road surfacing.

Dates may be subject to change so please check on site signage as well as the Essex Highways webpage for the latest information on developer’s progress.
