About the scheme
Salary Bridge carries Elmstead Road over Salary Brook in Colchester. The bridge comprises of three brick arches, an original archway and a brick arch extension on either side of the original.
A temporary lane restriction was introduced on the carriageway in November 2016 to minimise the stress on the bridge after inspections found one of the brick arches underneath the structure to be suffering from deterioration.
Traffic management will continue to be in place until a programme of works is complete.
When will the work take place?
Preparations for strengthening works and defect repairs are underway, with works expected to begin week commencing 24 July 2017. These are anticipated to take approximately 10 weeks to complete.
Please note that dates may be subject to change, for example if the works are completed earlier than planned, or if the programme experiences delays due to unexpected issues or poor weather.
Works will typically be undertaken between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
What is involved and how may it affect you?
The works will be undertaken using temporary lane restrictions, allowing vehicle access over the bridge throughout the works under traffic signal control. Traffic management will be adjusted as the works progress so please take additional care when passing through the area and observe local signage.
It is necessary for the barriers and a lane restriction to remain in place for the safety of the public and the workforce, until the works are complete.
A pedestrian route and access to properties will be maintained throughout the works.
We regret any inconvenience caused, however the work is a very necessary part of making sure our highways remain safe and meet the required standard.
The latest information about the scheme will be available on this webpage as well as local signage.
