Finchingfield bridge

Background:

The bridge in the centre of Finchingfield village is made up of two parts; one being a brick arch some 200 years or more old and the second part a reinforced concrete arch constructed around 1912 or later.

The existing old brick arch is unable to accommodate modern vehicle loading requirements. The brickwork is slowly failing, and recent investigations have confirmed that the bridge foundations are inadequate.

A number of solutions have been thoroughly considered since 2015.
