Berechurch Road improvement works

Planned improvements to Berechurch Road in Colchester took place in 2013. Preliminary environmental works were undertaken between 6-13 May 2013, ahead of the main carriageway reconstruction and widening works.

The main construction works were designed to improve the corridor and provide better passenger transport services. These works included the reconstruction and widening of the existing carriageway, and improvements to the condition of the road.  The project also improved lighting and drainage.

In addition to on-going contact with the Ministry of Defence, letters were sent to local residents and businesses in the vicinity of the scheme to make them aware of the project.

  • Closure of the southern section of the project, from the Corporal Budd Gym entrance to the intersection with Berechurch Hall Road, to allow road widening and drainage works;
  • Closure of the northern section of the project, from the Corporal Budd Gym entrance to the junction of Berechurch Road and Chariot Drive, to allow road widening and drainage works;
  • Closures from Chariot Drive to Berechurch Hall Road, to accommodate the carriageway reconstruction of Berechurch Road.

During these closures local access was maintained in order to keep any disruption to bus services a minimum.
