The scheme to build a footbridge over the railway line near Braintree Freeport station will create a link between the residential areas of the new Heathlands development and Braintree Freeport shopping and leisure facilities.
The need for a footbridge was identified and planned for as part of the Heathlands development and identified in Braintree District Council’s Local Plan as part of the proposals for the district. By providing a direct link between Heathlands and Freeport, the bridge will remove the need to travel between the two areas by car, assisting in the promotion of sustainable transport and reducing private car use in the area.
The bridge was successfully lifted into place on Sunday 30th September, however further work is required before the bridge will be open for use, opening is planned for mid December.
